We got up pretty early for a sunday (9:00) and drove to Jennifer’s aunt Gudrun. Gudrun celebrated her birthday and it is about an hour and 15 minutes drive with the car to Albstadt were she lives.

So today it really happened. David and I were in Austria (in Wald) after getting up around 4:30. It was unbelievable cold but it had a lot of snow so I spent most of the time in deep snow either riding my board or just rolling down.
Today arrived a package from Amazon where Jennifer and I ordered some books and CDs
a few days ago. I ordered two books from Terry Pratchett: The Amazing Maurice and His
Educated Rodents and Wee Free Men. From Robin Hobb Assassin’s Apprentice (Farseer)
and Paolo Conte’s CD Elegia as well as Pure Vernunft Darf Niemals Siegen from
Tocotronic.
Yesterday at work and the whole evening at home I tried to implement a bootp client
using raw sockets. After 4 hours I finally received answers from the server and today
I finished it to work without errors. I had problems receiving UDP packets via the raw
socket and changed it to receive not only the IP header but also the Ethernet header.
This was the only way I could make it work. Tomorrow I will clean the code up and
include some checks to test if the received packet is really an answer from the bootp
server.
Woke up this morning and outside everything is covered with a lot of snow. It is at least a lot of snow for Esslingen. It doesn’t happen very often that the snow stays and doesn’t melt away the same minute it touches the ground. Let’s see how much longer I need to drive to work today.
This is frustrating. There wasn’t enough snow most of the winter this year and I have now many new scratches in my snowboard. Today Jochen and I planned to go to Lech but the last days it snowed so much that most of the lifts are not operating and we would not even have reached Lech because the roads are full of snow. So we cancelled it and are now planning to go next Saturday if the weather gets better.
Yesterday I finished reading Going Postal from Terry Pratchett and started reading Keeper Martin’s Tale from Robert Stanek.
Today at work I tried to solve a problem with my assembler code for over three ours but I didn’t had any success. The situation only got worse instead of better. I decided to go home and try it again tomorrow and after about five minutes in the car on my way back home I knew what the problem was. And now listen to that: I am eager to go to work tomorrow to solve the problem. Aaarghh! I should be glad that tomorrow is friday and that the weekend comes. But no, I want to go to work…
So this is again the end of the weekend. We just came back from the cinema where we were watching House of Flying Daggers. We both thought that this was an incredible boring movie. I expected that the movie would be much better, but now I know better.
Yesterday Alex and Caro visited us and we had great evening together.
Wrote again some code for my editor erwin and reviewed i810switch in bugzilla.fedora.us.
I just came back from our monthly linux user group meeting. It was fun as always.
Currently I am reading again a book from Terry Pratchett: Going Postal. It has been a while since I read my last Terry Pratchett book, but it is entertaining as always to read one of his books.
The whole afternoon I removed some rust from Jennifer’s car. Instead of rust there are now spots of brown color on the red car. The only thing left to do now is to buy the right color for this car and paint the brown spots red.
In the evening we went to the movies and watched The Phantom of the Opera. What really annoyed us was that all scences including singing were not lip sync at all as we watched the german dubbed version.
So this is 2005. Yesterday Jennifer and I came back from Sölden where we were three days snowboarding. We had a great time. On the first day the snow was not that good but after it has been snowing the whole night we had great deep snow on the second day. We were, however, not able to see much because the mountains were covered in clouds. On the last day it was just perfect. We had only sunshine and perfect snow. Some pictures of Jennifer and me on our snowboards.
During our time in Sölden I finished reading my then current book. It is from the fantasy series A Song Of Ice And Fire the third book: A Storm Of Swords. Like in the two predecessor (A Clash Of Kings, A Game Of Thrones) the author George R. R. Martin writes an incredible amazing story which made it very hard for me to not read. I really loved to read the three books and I am already waiting that the fourth part of the series will be released.
And right now we just came back from the cinema watching Around the World in 80 Days. It’s a movie with Jackie Chan so it’s probably not necessary to say anything about the movie. We saw what we expected to see and had fun.
