Bicycle Tour

Yesterday evening Jennifer and I came home from a three day
bicycle tour. We covered a distance of over 190km in three days
and were very exhausted at the end. On the first day we drove from Esslingen
to T

Kino 2

The first attempt to convert my movie to DVD with kino failed.
After 2.5 hours there was nothing in the target directory except
a VIDEO_TS directory which was also empty. Therefore I started
a different export which has an ETA of 7 hours and 45 minutes. It is
now already running for 5 hours so I have only wait for 2 more hours
until it is finished. Currently I am in doubt that it will really fit
on one DVD but if does not fit I will just do it again with a lower bitrate
and wait another 8 hours (what are another 8 hours after all I have already
waited).

Kino

I have not been doing much the last 7 days except
using kino every minute to
finish the movie of our wedding which has been over one year ago.
I have started to work with kino on our movie over one year ago
but I have not done anything for almost a whole year until now.
I am currently not at work for about 3 weeks and until now I have spent most of
my time in front of computer working on the movie.

Two people filmed during our wedding and after transferring the data from
the cameras to my computer I had 24GB of uncompressed raw video material.
After a lot of cutting, editing, mixing, resampling (one camera recorded the sound
with 32KHz and the other with 48KHz), dubbing, fading and rendering I have now a 98
minutes movie which is currently transcoded to be burnt on a DVD. The
estimated time to convert it to a DVD is 2 hours 15 minutes and only 1 hour
and 39 minutes are left until it is finished.

I think I have created over 90GB of video material during the last 7 days and I am
already distributing the data over 3 computers to be able to handle all that data.

The sad thing about this movie is that probably nobody will ever watch the whole
movie because 98 minutes without a real story is pretty boring and I have already seen
every scene probably over 10 times. Maybe our parents will watch it…

Movies

I just came back from the cinema where I have been watching
Sin City
with some friends and we all thought
that it was a pretty good movie. Jennifer did not watch the movie because
she has been told that she will not like that movie. Therefore she and her sister
were watching Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

After some inactivity concerning my Fedora Extras package I requested
a rebuild of grip (Yay me!) which was necessary due to the new version of cairo in the
development branch.

Opensuse

People seem to be really interested in opensuse because just after I finished
to mirror it the bandwidth utilization jumped from the usual 60 Mbit/s we have every morning
to over 200 Mbit/s. This is a good test for the new RAID and it seems to handle it pretty
good because the only thing that has changed is the number of FTP connections (300) and
the load is still the same.

Happy Birthday

Today is Jennifer’s birthday and that is why I am staying at home with her.
