Yesterday a reboot of our mirror server (ftp-stud.fht-esslingen.de) was necessary
because it was not able to reach it anymore. So it was quickly rebooted and then everybody
went home. When I came home and tried to make a yum upgrade the server returned
a 404 for each file I was trying to download. I then saw that the /ftp partition
was not mounted and after having a look in dmesg I quickly found the reason for this error:
qla2300 0000:03:05.0: Found an ISP2300, irq 185, iobase 0xf883e000
qla2300 0000:03:05.0: Configuring PCI space...
qla2300 0000:03:05.0: Configure NVRAM parameters...
qla2300 0000:03:05.0: Verifying loaded RISC code...
qla2300 0000:03:05.0: Waiting for LIP to complete...
qla2300 0000:03:05.0: Cable is unplugged...
So it looks like either the cable got loose or someone tripped over it. I
now have to wait until someone can have a look why the controller thinks that
the cable is unplugged. I hope it will be fully operational again in the next few
hours.
The last few days I have been rather busy at work. The last two days
I have been searching for a bug in our bootloader and in parallel I have
installed Fedora Core 5test2 on some of our JS20s and on our Cell
Blades. This is really fascinating that you can now install Fedora without
any modifications on our Blades. Okay, not without any modifications but
I have to change only some minor things so that yaboot can actually
boot FC5test2 after the installation and the people on #ppc64 are really
a great help when it comes to understanding how Open Firmware works.
Reading the Open Firmware document is one thing but without the help on #ppc64
I would not really understand what I have to do. Yeah, more forth code for me.
I installed mythtv on an old notebook
and connected it to our TV set. Now we are finally able to watch our
recorded video files and we can now also watch our DVDs. Until now we never
bought a DVD player because I always said that we can easily do it with a computer and
so now, after only two years, we can watch our DVDs.
Jennifer and I watched the Narnia movie. She liked it; I did not.
