capacitor easily built A capacitor is an easy construction which is built by two plates of metal. There is nothing between this two plates !

But normally capacitors have got an insulator insulator between their plates which is normally composite material.

So if the two sides of the capacitor are not connected it will behave like a normal insulator. You might ask yourself for what it is good for ?

Well, the answer is, that if you put a charge on one side of the capacitor you will get a different charge on the other side.

The secret here is, that one side is able to influent the other side of the capacitor without being connected to each other.

whohohahah If you got for example two electrons next to each other they abstoßen because they have got the same charge.

If you got different charges, then it is just the other way round and they attract each other.

This forces are called "electric forces" .

But everywhere, where an electric force can be found, there exists also an electric field.

One charge can influent the other charge at a certain distance.

Let's take an easy basic circuit with just one capacitor and a power source.

If you look at this circuit then you will notice, that there will be no electricity which can flow.

But the charges inside the capacitor has changed.

Actually one side of the capacitor was connected to the positive side of the battery and one to the negative side. So if you take this capacitor out of the basic circuit an connect it across a meter , then you will have a measuring which shows you the charge of the capacitor.

This voltage is not very high but it is stored inside the capacitor. If you connect the capacitor now across a basic circuit with just one resistor, then the capacitor will behave just like a small battery :

One side (of the capacitor) has got a negative charge, the other side a positive charge. So the electricity flows from the negative side through the resistor to the positive side, until the capacitor is neutral.
